Northport, Michigan

July 16, 2012,

We just had a perfect day for our drive from Windsor to Northport. It was sunny and hot but with the air-conditioning with were confortable all the way. I drove in the morning and Dorothy drove after lunch. We stopped in Traverse City to give Dorothy time to do some shopping and then we drove north along Traverse Bay to Northport.

We met our friends Jackie and Doug that we originally met on our South American cruise last fall. We hit it off with them on our cruise and meeting them again was just like old times again. They have a lovely house a short walk from the marina where they keep their 32 foot sail boat. We had a delicious dinner of cod that Doug prepared with vegetables that he had grown in his garden. As they live near the lake, the water table is about 1 foot below the ground so the soil is damp all the time. So their lawn is beautifully green and their vegetable garden is just flourishing. With all the dry and hot weather every thing in the yard and vegetable is still green. The farmers all over North America would love this situation instead of watching their crops whither because of the hot weather and lack of rain.

After dinner we walked down to the marina to see Doug's sail boat. It is just a beauty. He races his sail boat and has won numerous first place finishes and has received quite a slew of pennants over the years. We walked back from the marina, had a delicious desert, talked into the night and then went to bed.
