I have prepared all my stuff that I will be taking on our trip tomorrow. Dorothy is now busy packing her stuff. I have a little time so I will bring you up to date. Tomorrow we are driving to Northport, Michigan which is about 36 miles north of Traverse City. In the next two weeks we hope to visit most of the lakes in the Great Lakes System.
This morning I walked to Lake St. Claire that is the smallest lake on the Great Lakes System. I usually take my daily walk to Sand Point Beach that is on the southern end of Lake St. Claire. This lake is small compared to the 5 large lakes but it is an important lake to the Great Lakes System as it connects to St.Claire River that flows from Lake Huron on the north side and to the Detroit River on its south side. The lake looks big to us as it is 22.5 miles wide so we cannot see the other side. It is an important part of the navigation system for the freighters that go between Detroit, Cleveland and Montreal to the ore rich areas of Lake Superior. We are fortunate that we live at the southern end of Lake St. Claire where it joins the Detroit River. From our dining room we can see freighters up to 1000 feet and they are always impressive to see.
When I went for my walk this morning, I brought some home made bread to feed the family of geese that I have been feeding since early June. The family consists of 3 goslings that hatched in the spring and the mother and father geese. So for the past 2 months I have seen the 3 goslings grow from small babies to full grown geese. I took some pictures today of the family of geese at Sand Point Beach. Here are the pictures of the geese on Sand Point Beach and Lake St. Claire:
